Recipe to take the chill out

November 9, 2015

With the start of the holiday season starting it is time to dust off those family recipes and perhaps introduce some new ones!  Here at The Flanagan House we really look forward to Fall and Winter. Do you enjoy a nice warm bowl of oatmeal in the morning?  How about using eggnog to make your french toast?  Better yet how about making a breakfast casserole using oatmeal and eggnog!  So many options this time of the year for a great hot breakfast.

Irish Oatmeal Brulee

serves 4-8 depending on serving size

8 cups of Vanilla Almond Milk or Eggnog Flavor of your choice

Cinnamon stick

2 cups of Steel Cut Oatmeal

assorted dried fruit and nuts of your choice.

Honey or Maple Syrup to sweeten

Brown Sugar

Bring the milk or eggnog with the cinnamon stick to a slight boil before adding the steel cut oatmeal and removing the cinnamon stick.  Turn down to very low to allow the oats to simmer. While the oats are cooking add the dried fruit and nuts. Allow the oats to simmer for approximately 15 to 20 mins.  Remove from heat and stir in honey and or maple syrup to sweeten to taste.  Portion out into oven safe bowls and sprinkle with brown sugar.  Put under broiler until brown sugar is carmelized.
